COMMUNITY

With a population of 12,812, Geneva is one of the more diverse communities in Upstate New York. Although located in a rural area of central New York, it faces many of the challenges that confront urban areas, including poverty, lower school performance and English-as-a-second-language communication problems.

The city is home to Hobart and William Smith Colleges and dozens of other nonprofit organizations providing vital services. The colleges, the Geneva City School District and many of these organizations work closely with Geneva 2030.

DIVERSITY

As the next graphic illustrates, Geneva’s population is more diverse than that of Ontario County overall.

POVERTY

An estimated 18.6% of Geneva residents live in poverty. Young people are disproportionately represented in this population.
